Headlines class that includes PGA Professional John Gunby, former LPGA Tour Professional Tina Tombs and Desert Mashie Golf Club
Former GCSAA President and CEO Mark Woodward, CGCS, was inducted into the Arizona Golf Hall of Fame on November 23 in a ceremony held at Paradise Valley Country Club in Paradise Valley, AZ.
Recently retired as the Director of Agronomy at Whisper Rock Golf Club in Scottsdale, Woodward served as President of GCSAA in 2004, CEO from 2008-2010 and just completed a stint as President of the Cactus & Pine GCSA.
"This is the highlight of my golf career", said Woodward who is the third member of his family to be inducted into the Arizona Golf Hall of Fame following his father Jay and his cousin Mike Pock.
A 43-year member of GCSAA, Woodward is a graduate of Arizona State University who spent 31 years at various facilities in the Valley of the Sun before taking over golf operations for the City of San Diego in 2005. While in San Diego, Woodward successfully bolstered revenue for the city facilities, hosted three PGA TOUR events and capped off his stay by hosting the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.
Following his time with GCSAA, Woodward served at Senior Vice President with OB Sports in Scottsdale before taking over the agronomic operations of the exclusive Whisper Rock Golf Club.
Woodward was joined in the hall by Southwest Section PGA Professional John Gunby, former LPGA Tour Professional and accomplished golf instructor Tina Tombs and Desert Mashie Golf Club, which was established in 1946 to for all persons interested in golf regardless of race, or ethnicity.
The Arizona Golf Hall of Fame was created by the Arizona Golf Association in 1968 to preserve golf history in the state, to honor those who by achievement have produced lasting contributions to the sport of golf in Arizona and to inspire Arizona youth involved in golf to reach their highest potential through the demonstration of commitment and dedication.
