Attendees will learn about water challenges facing the Southern California golf community
The Southern California Golf & Water Summit will be held on Thursday, August 18 at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills, CA. The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and is open to all golf industry professionals.
Organized by the California Golf Course Owners Association, GCSAA, GCSA of Southern California, Metropolitan Water District, Performance Resource Management, Southern California Golf Association, Southern California PGA, and the USGA, the event will serve as an opportunity to learn how the Southern California golf community is meeting current water challenges and how we will meet future challenges as they arise. In addition, you will learn practical ways to continue delivering great golfer experiences while using less water.
Some but not all of the speakers scheduled to present include:
- Deven Upadhyay, Assistant General Manager for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, who will provide an overview of the current allocation of water in the area and how the Southern California golf community and MWD can work together on water conservation initiatives.
- Dr. Bryan Unruh, who will provide insights into water use on golf courses in California and the Southwest Region, based on GCSAA’s Golf Course Environmental Profile: Water Use and Conservation Practices on U.S. Golf Courses.
- Justin Mandon of Pasatiempo Golf Club, who will show how to plan in the face of water restrictions, using several examples, including the forward-thinking water-recycling facility he spearheaded at Pasatiempo.
- Brian Whitlark of the USGA, who will demonstrate the benefits of converting to warm-season grasses without sacrificing golfer experience.
- Josh Heptig of San Luis Obispo County, who will talk about how the municipality overcame a water crisis at Dairy Creek and improved the facility’s bottom line.
- Dr. Matteo Serena of the USGA, who will bring to life the USGA’s long-term mission to help the golf industry better manage its use of water.
The event is free of charge and includes lunch. PGA and GCSAA members will receive continuing education points for attendance. Registration is open through August 3 at https://scga.org/water-summit.
We appreciate your support of Southern California’s allied golf organizations, and we look forward to seeing you at Los Serranos on the 18
