FMC launches Echelon herbicide

FMC Professional Solutions says its Echelon herbicide has received EPA approval for pre-emergence and early postemergence control of a variety of annual grasses, broadleaf weeds and annual sedges in golf courses, sports turf, residential and institutional lawns, sod farms and similar areas.

FMC echelon bottleThe company says Echelon provides effective pre-emergence control of Poa annua.  In addition, this new herbicide also provides postemergence control of goosegrass and key broadleaf weeds such as dandelions, curly dock and buckhorn plantain.

In a trial conducted at the University of Georgia, Echelon demonstrated strong control of goosegrass as early as three days after treatment and continued to provide effective control of goosegrass at 27 days after treatment.

"Echelon gives the golf course superintendent effective pre- and postemergence control of some of their toughest weed problems.  It’s like nothing else on the market," said Rick Ekins, turf and ornamental product manager.

The product is labeled for use on golf course fairways, roughs and non-playing surfaces. Contact

TeeJet flat spray tip offers drift control and coverage

Teejet AIXRTeeJet says its new Air Induction XR flat spray tip, produces fewer driftable droplets at higher pressures than most other tips and provides excellent drift control without compromising coverage. The nozzle uses a unique air induction design to produce larger air-filled drops that stay on target and cover the entire plant.

The AIXR is ideal for pre-emerge surface- applied herbicides, post-emerge systemic herbicides and post-emerge contact herbicides. Other features include easy removal of the pre-orifice for cleaning/inspection, a unique polymer material providing significantly longer wear life and better acid-resistance, a compact design, a wide operating pressure range of 15 to 90 psi  and tip color-coding in compliance with the ISO standard for easy capacity identification.

BASF offers turf-safe hydraulic fluid

BASF says its new Plurasafe EnBio TCS high performance hydraulic fluid is the first water-free lubricant that provides excellent lubricity and is formulated to eliminate turf loss when leaked. It is designed to replace hydraulic fluids based on mineral and vegetable oils, which are known to kill turfgrass.

"Current hydraulic fluid product offerings made from mineral and vegetable oils can cause substantial damage to the turf," said William Berndt, Ph.D., professor of professional and technical studies for golf course operations at Edison College. "Under high pressure, the flexible hoses used in the equipment sometimes leak, and conventional hydraulic fluids containing either of these oils kill grass."

In addition to the harmful effects on grass, hydraulic fluid that is typically used to operate golf course maintenance machinery can cause potential harm to the environment.

"Plurasafe EnBio TCS is biodegradable and environmentally friendly. It will not harm or kill grass if leaked onto the turf when the recommended wash procedure is followed," said Brian Lieberman, BASF business director.

ProteSyn now offers Amino-Lok technology

Floratine Products Group has updated its ProteSyn product with Amino-Lok technology--a combination of specific, key amino acids that sequester nitrogen for slow linear release and promote the linkage process toward mature protein synthesis.

"We’re very excited to launch this new, improved reformulation of our popular ProteSyn product," said Brian Goodwin, president. "Even though golf course superintendents loved ProteSyn’s original formula, we are always researching new developments in plant nutrition, keeping us on the leading edge."

The company says ProteSyn works against heat stress throughout the summer and into fall by aiding and enhancing the completion of photosynthetic activity, which encourages healthy cell division, respiration and energy conservation.

In addition, the carbon-rich compounds in ProteSyn contribute directly to plant energy reserves, mature protein production, complete amino acid resources, enhanced cell division and the appropriate carbon-to-nitrogen ratio.

Caterpillar introduces four C-Series skid steer loaders

Caterpillar is offering four new C-Series skid steer loaders—246C, 256C, 262C, 272C—that it says deliver industry-leading performance in their size classes.

The new skid steers also offer exception control with features such as electro-hydraulic joystick control and electronic torque management. Operator comfort features include such an optional sealed and pressurized cab and an optional air suspension seat.

With a rated operating capacity of 3,250 pounds, the 272C is the largest capacity skid steer loader Caterpillar has produced. The vertical lift 272C is joined by the smaller 262C, which has an operating capacity of 2,700 pounds and also features vertical lift for enhanced truck loading capabilities. The 246C and 256C are radial lift machines with rated operating capacities of 2,150 pounds and 2,350 pounds, respectively.

The 3.3-liter Cat 3044C DIT used in all four models is turbocharged for a wide power range. At 90 net horsepower the 272C is the most powerful skid steer Caterpillar has ever offered. Both the 262C and 256C deliver 82 net horsepower, and the 246C generates 73 net horsepower.
