IPM Examination Administration Guidelines
Pre-Examination Procedures
- Please contact the monitor of your choice and arrange for an agreeable time and place to take the examination. You may arrange to take it with a school official, instructor, member of the clergy, or other such third party, subject to approval by the education curriculum coordinator. Monitors may be turfgrass professors, but all others in the golf and turf industry (club officials, superintendents, etc.) are prohibited from serving as monitors.
- Notify GCSAA of your wish to be tested by providing your monitor's name, title, address, phone number and the scheduled examination date on the IPM Examination Request Form. A minimum of four weeks notice is necessary to allow time for processing the request, mailing the study manual, and mailing the examination. International members, please allow for eight weeks notice. Please include your $40 test fee with the request form. If you prefer to take the exam online, please use this form to register.
- There will be an examination time available at conference and show every year. The same application procedures should be followed.
Examination Procedures
- Identify yourself to the monitor with some common form of picture identification, i.e. driver's license, etc. and a GCSAA membership ID card.
- The monitor may answer your questions regarding examination procedures, but may not discuss answers to specific questions on the examination.
- You are allowed to use the GCSAA Integrated Pest Management Study Manual during the examination, along with other reference materials of your choice. The use of a pocket calculator is also permitted.
- Three hours in one sitting is allowed for the examination.
Post-Examination Procedures
- The monitor is provided with an envelope in which to return your materials. Examinees are not allowed to mail in their own materials.
- The examination and the Scantron sheet must both be mailed to GCSAA in the return envelope. Failure to follow this instruction will invalidate the entire process and necessitate retesting.
- After your examination has been graded, you will be notified of the results by mail.
- If you must be retested, follow the examination procedures above. Two retakes are allowed within a year. If you have chosen to test for renewal of your Class A status, the examination must be taken and completed by your expiration date. The initial exam fee is $40 and retakes will cost $25.
