urges action on H-2B “returning workers” relief measure
GCSAA is urging its members to help preserve access to an expanded pool
of H-2B seasonal immigrant laborers. The H-2B relief bill – the
Save our Small and Seasonal Businesses Act -- that allowed previous workers
to be exempt from the annual limit of 66,000 visas expired on Sept. 30,
2007, and since that time, many golf facilities and other small and seasonal
businesses have lost access to the only legal source of seasonal workers
available to supplement their year-round workforce. More>>

in drought emergency
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state
emergency due to drought on Feb. 27, and said he would consider mandatory
water rationing in the face of nearly $3 billion in economic losses from
below-normal rainfall this year.
