On Nov. 15 the Department of Homeland Security announced that it will release additional H-2B visas for Fiscal Year 2025. GCSAA has long advocated these additional visas to ensure that golf course superintendents have access to the labor needed throughout the Spring of 2025. The DHS will be releasing 64,716 visas as follows:
- 20,000 visas are designated for workers from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Haiti.
- 44,716 visas are allocated to returning workers who received H-2B status in the past three fiscal years.
These additional visas will supplement the 66,000 visas made available under statute. GCSAA has long argued that this number is inadequate to meet the needs of golf and other seasonal businesses and is pleased that the DHS has agreed and will release these extra visas. A final rule and timeline are forthcoming. More information can be found here.
The H-2B Visa program will be featured in the Government Affairs Quarterly Briefing on Dec. 5. The guest will be Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD). Harris is a strong supporter of the H-2B program and has greatly helped the effort to increase the number of visas available. He will discuss the latest developments as well as what will happen in the next Congress.
